23 WAITAKERECOLLEGE2017 City Camp At the end of Term 3 the transition students in Room 2 ISC supported by Mrs Muschamp, Allison Loveday, Tracy Bennett and Keron Smith spent 2 days and a night exploring Auckland CBD. They had a great time enjoying the city as young adults. Drama Destruction Preceding Construction MPs MARVEL AT ISC Three Labour MPs, Carmel Sepalone, Chris Hipkins and Phil Twyford visited the ISC to see what special education is actually like for students and staff. Room 2 made them a lovely morning tea and staff and students enjoyed answering their questions and showing them around. Chinese Cultural trip FO GUANG SHAN TEMPLE My dear students, we had an awesome experience visiting Fo Guang Shan Temple in Term 4. Tai Chi and meditation in the courtyard was enjoyed so much. These are the other highlights: • Lotus making – pure and clean • The statue of Buddha and the buildings – so amazing • The wishing bell – best wishes made • The vegetarian food – first time and delicious • Treasure hunt and selfies – fun and laughter • Mindfulness – our surroundings Keep an open mind and heart to see what the world has to offer you and enjoy every moment. Ms Embleton Latchmi Naidu and Peresiana Tuimaualuga The old Drama room was demolished in Term 4 and construction has started on the two new areas that will be opening early next year – wood construction workshops for the Technology Dept and a second Dance/Drama performance space next to the Hall. These are the architect’s concepts of the new spaces. MATHS WEEK This year maths week was a big success. The daily maths questions were fiercely contested and it was great to see such a range of classes from all year levels winning prizes. The highlight of the week was the school Mathex competition. Each teacher put together a team of 5 with the winning team coming from Ms Zheng’s class. The competition was very close with only one point separating most of the teams. In the end it came down to a tie breaker question to separate the two top teams with Ms Zheng’s team narrowly taking out the title. Well done to all our participants, see you next year!
