WAITAKERECOLLEGE2016 42 TECHNOLOGY DESIGN AND VISUAL COMMUNICATION Design and Visual Technology in the junior school is aimed at developing students confidence through learning specific graphic skills and communicating their creativity. The course is a blend of DVC and PDT, giving the juniors a range of opportunities to design authentic spatial design projects, to interior spatial design, product design saleable products and realistic rendering of their designs. Spatial design in the senior school is still proving to be very popular and the students are enjoying great success at all levels with various spatial design projects such as; Sleep-out designs, Local Café project, School Year 13 common room, Holiday Bach, and Garden for the Marae. PRODUCT DESIGN TECHNOLOGY It’s been an exciting and successful year in Product Design with students across the levels producing creative and innovative design solutions. Year 12 students were working closely with Nick Von K to produce a new jewellery range for his company. Nick was incredibly impressed with the presentations and was keen to pursue a number of projects for production. Students also produced batch production homeware outcomes on the laser cutter, including tables, lamps and storage solutions. Year 11 students have also been busy, designing laser cut solutions for stakeholders and designing and making their own storage solutions, ranging from shoe racks, make up boxes and model car display cabinets. An awesome effort from all with next year looking to be even more successful!
